We need Cibutex to raise awareness, facilitate and drive change and promote cooperation and collaboration for a new, sustainable textile industry.
Gap
At the end of their lifecycles, textile products fall into a gap. Litterally when they are used as landfills, but also when they are simply incinerated as useless trash. Reusing and recycling textiles are methods to bridge that gap.
Business textiles, handled by textile service companies, are excellent candidates for high level recycling. The mission of Cibutex is to close the gap and make (business) textiles circular.
Sustainable future
In order to create a sustainable world for future generations, profound transitions are necessary. To simply carry on as we always have and see what happens, is not really an option. We need to think different, act different, innovate and actively change things. Sometimes fundamental things. This applies to societies, to politics and to all economic activities.
Second most polluting
The textile industry is often described as the second most polluting industry in the world, after the oil industry. Textile ranks this ‘high’ because it contributes to virtually every thinkable negative impact: massive water consumption and water pollution, heavy use of toxic chemicals, microplastics shedding from synthetic fibers, huge energy consumption, high green house gas emissions and then there are the effects of washing, drying and ironing of fabrics.
Linear
Last but not least, the textile industry operates on a linear model (make, take, waste) in which the discarded products at the end of the life cycle are simply burnt or dumped in remote places.
As in other industries, the transition we face is one from linearity to circularity.
